Yayoi Kusama is the best-known Japanese contemporary artist in Europe. Every year, I see an event or two related to her work in the UK.

This story takes you to her exhibition held in Manchester in 2023. In fact, I don’t know if I should call it an exhibition or a walking experience in the Kusama world. In any case, it fascinated me, a long-time fan of her work!

It took place in Aviva Studios, a new cultural facility with an official opening in October 2023.

This exhibition, ‘You, Me and the Balloons’, was chosen as its opening event. Tickets were sold out instantly. Later, due to its great popularity, opening hours were extended to nighttime. Tickets for those timeslots were gone in no time, too.
